Industry body welcomes another education institution to its ranks

Edinburgh Napier University joins TIGA

The Edinburgh Napier University has joined the UK games industry trade association TIGA.

Edinburgh Napier offers two separate games industry-specific courses; a BSc in Interactive Entertainment and Games Development and an MA in in Interactive Entertainment.

Programme leader for the BSc course Kevin Chalmers explained that the university joined TIGA in order to support and engage with them as a body, and the games industry as a whole.

“The University has recently launched a degree in Interactive Entertainment and Games Development and we feel it is essential to work closely with TIGA and the game development community to ensure this degree is of the highest possible standard,” he said.

“We would also like to work with TIGA and the industry to develop work experience opportunities and internships for our students. Finally, we would also like to see TIGA become the hub of the games industry, allowing the cooperation of both academia and industry to ensure the future of the games industry in the UK.”

TIGA CEO Richard Wilson said of the university joining his association: “Scotland is one of the hot beds of UK game development and it is right that it should also boast high quality games development courses to support the growing sector.”

“We look forward to working with Edinburgh Napier University to further improve the links between academia and industry,” he concluded.
