Decksplash - Free Week starts today on Steam

Bossa Studios' skateboarding turf war game to immediately enter Early Access if it can build an online community of 100,000 players during Free Week

London, United Kingdom - November 2 - Decksplash, the new skateboarding turf war game from Bossa Studios, will be playable today from 6pm GMT / 7pm CET on Steam (PC), as part of a special Free Week. In a unique experiment, the studio is aiming for 100,000 people to download and play Decksplash between November 2 and November 10, which will trigger the instant release of the game into Early Access at the end of the Free Week.

There have been contrasting reactions to the news of the Free Week from players, with comments ranging from the great and the good, to the bad and the ugly. Bossa Studios took time this week to explain more of the why they think this industry first is important for the game.

“Decksplash is an online multiplayer game. It cannot succeed without a thriving live community, as players depend on a minimum amount of other active participants to get a good matchmaking experience and have fun with it. This is why we devised this experiment: give the game away for free, no strings attached and, if people genuinely like it, then launch in the knowledge we’re focusing our energy into a game that will work for every player and the dev team for years to come.” — Henrique Olifiers, Bossa Studios co-founder.

A deeper insight into the studio’s Free Week can be found in this community video by Bossa Studios’ game designer and the in-game voice of Decksplash, Matt ‘Malford’ Alford.

If 100,000 players participate in the Free Week, the game will be released into Early Access on November 10. Achieving that target will provide Decksplash with the ideal conditions for launching into a sustainable ecosystem and guaranteeing a vibrant, competitive community.

Everything players earn during the Free Week — loot, levels, coins — will carry over to the Early Access version. Additionally, Free Week players will unlock and keep the Erik board set, giving them a unique part of Decksplash history that nobody else will be able to get afterwards. Further information in the latest blog post.

Decksplash pits two teams of three skateboards against each other to dominate skateparks by painting their team’s colour across the tarmac. Stringing tricks into combos, players build up their score, leading to a massive splash of their team's colour across the skatepark when they successfully land. As they progress, players are rewarded with customisations to personalize their boards, enabling them to stamp their ideal identity on future contests.

Get in, get splashing, and get Decksplash released. It’s quite literally ‘skate or die'!
