Quinn & the Quips television series encourages young girls to pursue careers in tech and science
CHARLOTTE, N.C., May 16, 2017 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Blue Socks Media, a Charlotte-based production company, recently introduced their newest television series, Quinn and the Quips, on Kickstarter to raise seed capital and build grassroots support. With three weeks to go, the project is 25% funded and overall development is accelerating, including the addition of virtual reality to the show's plot.
The series focuses on Quinn, an 11-year old techie gamer, and her friends, who are recruited by an eccentric teacher to learn code while competing in a virtual reality game complicated by an arsenal of emoji-like, shape-shifting quips. In addition to the television series for 6-11 year olds, Blue Socks plans to build an interactive gaming app.
"Early discussions with broadcasters and game developers have been positive, and we've been encouraged to expand the story to include a virtual reality competition," Alex Anderson, Quinn creator and producer at Blue Socks Media, commented. "The VR component has allowed us to add a new and exciting tech-fantasy level to the story, as well as add interest to the social aspect. The quips now have a more complex role to play in the game, and the VR competition has real-life implications for the characters."
Blue Socks Media believes that by creating a tech-savvy heroine, the series will appeal to young girls and demonstrate how technology can be exciting and attractive. Research shows that women have been severely underrepresented and underpaid for comparable work in both the technology and science fields.
With engaging characters and contemporary stories, Quinn & the Quips also hopes to address the many new challenges facing this digital generation, including how to balance the dependency on electronic devices and how to form and maintain meaningful relationships with family and friends.
