The Battle Royale genre should really be calming down a bit now don’t you think? You don’t? That’s fine because everyone else can’t get enough of it.
It seems weekly that records and figures are broken that seem utterly astronomical but the records continue to pass. The first record this week was announced in a tweet by PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds developer Brendan Greene who informed us that the game has now sold 20 million copies.

This is of course ahead of a console launch on Xbox One on December 12th, which opens a new and potentially lucrative console market for PUBG. However it’s most direct competition on consoles, Epic Games’ Fortnite, also had a very similar record.

Fortnite has been out on PS4, Xbox One and PC with an open beta of its Battle Royale mode. It is not, however, out on Steam, which PUBG seems to have mastery over at present. But it is currently free while PUBG will cost £29.99 on PC and Xbox One when it launches. It going to be very interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks.
