48 hour game design event takes place worldwide January 25-27 2013
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - November 28, 2012 - Global Game Jam Inc. announced today that participant registration sign-ups for the upcoming 2013 Global Game Jam are now open. GGJ asks all interested developers to secure their spot at one of the many worldwide locations. The 2013 edition of the Global Game Jam will mark the fifth year bringing together game developers from around the world to create playable games and functional prototypes over the course of a single weekend.
Game Jams are creative incubators for game makers to challenge, innovate and experiment in their craft. The event is a sandbox of creativity while juggling time management, collaboration and game production skills. Over the course of a GGJ weekend, jammers create long-lasting friendships or embark on the journey of new start-up studios, some finding new career opportunities while others develop new skills and refresh old ones, all while having fun along the way.
“The Global Game Jam is about never giving up on experimentation and the continuous exploration of the frontiers of game design. We are really looking forward to seeing what people will come up with next,” said GGJ co-founder and 2013 director Gorm Lai.
“You never know what you’re capable of until you have a deadline of 48 hours to make something awesome,” said Kyle Pulver, indie game dev and jammer, who had success with one of his GGJ games.
Over the past five years the Global Game Jam has attracted thousands of developers around the world to participate. Now is the time for interested parties to sign-up at their local location. The earlier a developer signs up, the earlier they can start utilizing some of the great promotions GGJ’s generous sponsors are offering.
The GGJ organization invites designers, artists, animators, programmers, journalists and everyone interested in game design to sign up now on the website. Over 175 sites have been confirmed from around the world with more hosts and locations coming onboard daily. This year, GGJ has attracted new sites from around the globe, welcoming Macedonia and Serbia among others as first-time locations in January.
