The winning entries of the Game Zanga Summer 2012 edition included a Moroccan-developed game based on famous Palestinian cartoonist, Naji Al-Ali’s“Handala” character, and games based on the Arab Spring such as“Voice of Freedom” and“The People Want”.

August 16, 2012, Riyadh / GameTako ( www . gametako . com) announced today the winning game entries of its second Game Zanga game development weekend and competition which was held on December 12 - 14, 2012. The Game Zanga game jam resulted in 43 games created under the community-voted“Freedom” theme.
GameTako awarded the prizes the winning entries based on verdict from a panel of judges. The judging panel represented Arab game specialist media outlets: IGN Middle East, True - Gaming and Z - pad . net, in addition to prominent Arab game developers including Radwan Kasmiya of Falafel Games and Rami Ismail of Vlambeer.
In addition to the main prizes, GameTako also offered best-in-category prizes as incentives based on individual criteria such as Most Innovative Game, Best Technical Achievement, and Most Humorous Game. GameTako also award the Best Newcomer prize to a 15-year old as the youngest participant who completed a game during the three days of the Game Zanga.
The total value of prizes awarded to Game Zanga Summer 2012 participants exceeded $10,000. In addition to the cash prizes offered by GameTako, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe will award PS Vita consoles and three year PS Mobile Developer Program licenses for the best games of the Zanga venues in Amman, Cairo and Riyadh. The winning participants will also receive free licenses from Game Zanga sponsors Unity, Stencyl, Scirra (Construct 2) and Mixed Dimensions (GameDraw). ? Most Innovative Game: Emerge (Salwan Hilali, Egypt)
? Most Humorous Game: Harban (Osama Hussein, Salaheddine Basti and Chafik El Hadri, Morocco).
