Open festival platform now taking submissions for games, movies, comedy, theatre and more
Nottingham 02/08/12 - Nottingham Trent University’s GameCity, the world’s best loved videogame culture festival, today launched OpenGameCity for public submissions. OpenGameCity is the platform that runs alongside GameCity7 inviting anyone to get involved in the week long festivities. To submit an event, go to http://open.gamecity.org
Launched in 2010 as an entry point for creative individuals to participate in and shape the GameCity celebrations, OpenGameCity took on a life of its own with over 30 events, increasing to 50 for 2011, and today it once again opens ahead of GameCity7, running from October 20-27th.
Spaces across Nottingham city are donating their venues to the initiative, opening their doors to fan creations including music, movies, art, theatre, comedy, crafting, food and, of course, games, all for free.
One of the main highlights of previous festivals has been GameCity’s dedicated videogame exhibition spaces in the festival HQ, located on the Old Market Square with an average festival footfall of over 250,000 people. Developer spaces are now open to book for free, open to professional, hobbyist and aspiring creators alike.
GameCity Director Iain Simons said,“GameCity is the sum of the people that attend and contribute, so we established OpenGameCity to try and make that as easy as possible for anyone to do just that. More than any other part of the festival, Open demonstrates the diversity of things that videogame culture can offer. This year, we’re really looking forward to being amazed and surprised all over again.
More than just being an exciting way to broaden the format and extend the festivities, Open, much like the festival itself, also aims to boost the local area economy by driving footfall through all partner venues and has had great success in impacting the bottom line in previous years.”
OpenGameCity events can include, but are not limited to;
• Videogame exhibitions
• Film screenings
• Art shows
• Street theatre
• Stand up comedy
• Craft fairs
• Cookery lessons
• Speed dating
• Talented pets
