Social gaming company narrows focus and removes defunct studio's online portal

Zynga will shut down OMGPop.com by the end of September following the closure of the Draw Something studio in June.

The developer, aquired for $200 million last year, was shut down as part of a massive round of layoffs at the troubled social games company.

Now the firm has a new CEO, former Xbox chief Don Mattrick, and he's promised to review the company's business from top to bottom and bring new focus to the sprawling giant.

Four games will be taken offline as a result of the move: Cupcake Corner, Pool World Champ, Snoops, and Gem Rush.

“Our goal at Zynga is to give players the opportunity to play the most fun and social games on the web,” read a statement from the company.

“With this goal in mind, we have decided to close some OMGPOP games to make way for new and exciting gaming opportunities.

“We regret that this decision will affect some of our players, but we invite you to you visit Zynga.com and try some of our other games."
