'Young devs might never work on new triple-A IP'

'It is fun and creative, just in a different way,' says Vicious Cycle boss

The next generation of game designers should consider themselves lucky if they work on a blockbuster new IP project, a senior games exec has said.

Industry veteran Dave Ellis, the co-founder of Vicious Cycle, believes established IP will often be the only option for new devs.

"You don't always get to work on original games,” he was quoted as saying at the East Coast Game Conference in North Carolina.

“In fact, you might never get to work on original games," Ellis added, according to The Escapist.

Yet adding your own skills to an established IP project isn’t all environment touch-ups and meticulous nose designs.

"It's fun and creative, just in a different way," Ellis added.

Ellis, 46, has worked in the industry for two decades. He co-founded Vicious Cycle, a studio that provides game engine technology as well as game software.
