WOW contender Trion Worlds signs with Ubisoft

Trion Worlds, the heavily VC-funded developer currently at the centre of three ambitious projects, has announced a distribution deal with Ubisoft.

The agreement will see Trion’s first game – a World Of Warcraft contender known as Rift – distributed across mainland Europe; in France, Benelux, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Nordics.

Rift, which has undergone several name-changes throughout its development, had spent into a budget of $50 million.

Trion Worlds CEO Lars Butler said that the deal with Ubisoft “demonstrates the potential Rift has to be a game-changer in the online gaming space.”

“We are thrilled to be working with Ubisoft, one of world’s leading publishers, as we reaffirm our commitment to deliver quality products to gamers around the world,” he added.

A distribution plan for UK, the US, South America, Japan, China and Canada was not announced.
