GDC 09: Version 3.1 due for release in early May

Worldweaver unveils updated DX Studio platform

Pinewood Studios-based software house Worldweaver has revealed final details about its DX Studio game and simulation platform.

Currently in the public beta stage, DX Studio 3.1 offers an advanced terrain and shadow mapping system which allows developers to create massive seamless outdoor environments. Moving beyond the traditional height field and offering the use of a freeform mesh-based approach, the platform now allows for overhanging cliffs caves and vertical terrain.

“Our switch last year to a live editing system laid some excellent foundations for future development and we are now starting to see the benefits” said Worldweaver CEO and Founder Chris Sterling. “This latest release will really push things forward in terms of DX Studio’s core performance. We are looking to offer triple-A game platform performance for a fraction of the price.”

The 3.1 release also includes an integrated web browser with Flash support, hardware skinned meshes and shadows, an expansion of the PhysX capabilities, Wiimote support, and resource management and file sharing systems for larger projects.

DX Studio 3.1 is due for release in early May.
