Wii U ‘definitely more powerful’ than current-gen

Nintendo’s upcoming Wii U will be more powerful than current-gen consoles Xbox 360 and PS3, claims the CEO of Scribblenauts developer 5th Cell.

Speaking to Game informer, as reported by Videogamer, Jeremiah Slaczka said it was frustrating to see the debate on the system’s capabilities spreading across the internet as he felt it was definitely capable of more than many believe.

"The Wii U is definitely more powerful than Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3,” he said.

“It’s kind of frustrating to see the rumours and speculation of people going back and forth saying it’s weaker or more powerful. It’s definitely more powerful."

Slaczka’s comments come after numerous developers have spoken out on the capabilities of Nintendo’s Wii U, with the console giant yet to reveal the full specs of its next-gen system.

Nintendo’s CEO Satoru Iwata has claimed the console will be able to compete with more powerful consoles, and that the difference in graphical power will not be as wide as it was with the Wii.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 lead developer Katsuhiro Harada meanwhile has questioned the power of the system’s CPU, whilst Microsoft Studios’ corporate VP Phil Spencer has said the console is more comparable to current-gen machines.
