New studio launched with Double Dragon Neon director Sean Velasco at the helm

Wayforward vets christen Yacht Club Games

A new studio has set sail under the banner of Yacht Club Games.

Headed by Double Dragon Neon director Sean Velasco and crewed by veterans of Wayforward, the independent studio pledges its efforts to "making gameplay-centric games on platforms for gamers."

Unlike many start-ups these days, the studio will not be focusing on freemium or social titles, it announced over Twitter.

"It’s such an exciting time to be a fan of games; the industry is experiencing a renaissance and creativity is flourishing," reads the team website.

"We are so, so excited to develop games that we love, in hopes that you love them too. Let’s make a splash!"

Will this new studio be able to navigate the turbulent waters of the fast-evolving industry? The team seems to think so, and points to its pedigree of experience on titles like Contra 4, A Boy and His Blob, Thor: God of Thunder, Mighty Milky Way, and BloodRayne Betrayal.

Yacht Club will be showing its first game at Pax East on March 22-24.
