Project running behind schedule as scope of the game has increased

Upcoming crowdfunded role-playing game Wasteland 2 will not make its scheduled October release date, according to a progress update from its developer.

InXile Entertainment’s CEO Brian Fargo has said the delay lies with the Kickstarter project’s massive financial success and subsequent shift in scope.

The Wasteland 2 project raised $2.93m, which was over three times its intended $900,000 goal.

“This feature complete playable is about six weeks behind where I had wanted it to be, but I can’t be too surprised, considering the increased scope. We have been able to accomplish so much in so little time by our experience, fantastic team, and tools," Fargo wrote.

As a result of the delay, Wasteland 2 will now go into beta testing beginning in October 2013.

Fargo added that the he and some of the development team will be showing the game to the press at next month’s Gamescom in Cologne.

InXile plans to announce a new release date for the game after it has received enough feedback from testers.
