Develop Conference: Star Wars and Willow actor working with Matmi on 'Pocket Warwick'

Warwick Davis: ‘Games as rewarding as Shakespeare’

Taking to the stage at the Develop Conference Star Wars and Willow actor Warwick Davis has revealed that his recent involvement in making games has been ‘no less rewarding’ than acting on stage in a Shakespeare production.

"As an artist and producer you want to find other ways to spread your creativity," said Davis of his choice to work with studio Matmi on in-development title Pocket Warwick.’ "A game seemed a good way to do that."

Pointing to the fact that he believes games can now convey enough emotion and detail to satisfy an actor’s standards, Davis revealed he feels a game can serve as an extension of what an actor can do as a performer.

"It’s no less rewarding than getting up on stage and doing a Shakespeare play," he concluded.

While little is know of the details of Pocket Warrick, on stage with Davis Matmi’s founder Jeff Coghlan described the title as "Tamagotchi meets the Sims on acid".

Davis is most famous for his role as Wicket W. Warrick in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, and for playing the protagonist in children’s fantasy film Willow.
