Company ties Midway IP to its recent investment in OnLive
In announcing the internal promotion of it new snrVP, Warner Bros has named a number of IPs, platforms and services it is interested in pursuing.
Following the media empire’s $49 million Midway takeover, Warner Bros has chosen to name two of the various franchises it has bought along with the company.
“As a result of the Midway acquisition, which includes the Mortal Kombat and SpyHunter franchises,” said the group, “Warner Bros now has access to a greatly expanded catalog of valuable intellectual properties.”
The firm added that its Midway properties can be “developed and re-released on new games and digital platforms, adapted for film or TV, leveraged for consumer products, or licensed to third parties.”
As well as this, Warner Bros revealed it had made a “recent investment in the videogame on demand service, OnLive, which plans to launch this fall.”
Though the company has not formally revealed the IP it is developing through its new fleet of studios – and indeed the platforms such projects will end up on – Warner has again made a strong indication about which projects and platforms the business could focus on.
Recently, job profiles of apparent employees from “WB Games” have been found dotted around the professional networking site LinkedIn, with Midway’s Chicago studio – responsible for developing Mortal Kombat games – being named on such profiles as “WB Games Chicago”.
