‘You're only as good as your last game,’ laments mobile developer following lack of traction for Warhammer 40,000: Deathwatch
The Guildford-based studio behind Warhammer strategy titles Quest and Deathwatch has closed after its latest title failed to take off.
Rodeo Games originally found success with Warhammer Quest, a digital adaptation of the strategy board game for iOS.
It then moved onto the tabletop franchise’s sci-fi spin-off with Warhammer 40,000: Deathwatch.
However, despite warm review scores, the game struggled to find an audience, resulting in the death of the mobile developer.
“I and the majority of the team left four months ago, so [as far as I know] there's no one to offer support or make content,” former Rodeo staffer Matthew Spencer posted on the Touch Arcade forums.
“Like most indie developers, you're only as good as your last game, and even though Deathwatch was Rodeo’s highest metric game, it didn't make enough so we had to move on.”
Founded in 2010 by four former triple-A devs from companies including Criterion, Lionhead, EA and Codemasters, Rodeo also produced Hunters: Episode One and Hunters 2.
