Locomotion device set for 2015 release
The Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for Cyberith’s VR treadmill the Virtualizer has closed at $361,452 from 577 backers.
The money raised smashes the start-up’s funding goal of $250,000. Cyberith now plans to finalise the design of the hardware and put it into production, and aims to release the tech in 2015.
The Virtualizer is designed to be used on conjunction with a virtual reality headset, such as the Oculus Rift or Project Morpheus, and tracks the user’s movement around virtual environment’s, enabling them to walk, run, crouch and jump.
An SDK for the hardware is expected to be made available by the end of 2014.
Last year Cyberith was named as one of the top games start-ups in Europe in the Develop 100, you can view it for free in your browser or on iPad.
