#1ReasonToBe panel receives standing ovation as devs encourage women to chase success in game industry
The GDC 2013 panel #1ReasonToBe in which women developers received a standing ovation for discussing women in games and industry sexism is now available on the GDC Vault.
The session featured Brenda Romero, Journey exec producer Robin Hunicke, Microsoft Games Studios game designer Kim McAuliffe, Storm8 designer Elizabeth Sampat, game critic Mattie Brice and Gamasutra journalist Leigh Alexander discussing the problems women face in the game industry.
Brenda Romero raised a standing ovation and reduced some members of the audience to tears as she spoke of her daughter’s ambition to make a game with her mother, while lamenting booth babes at E3 for giving the wrong impression of women in the game industry.
She added that she felt unable to take her daughter to such events because booth babes made her and other women feel uncomfortable and "gazed upon".
