The next iteration of Call of Duty will use brand new performance capture technology for its characters to deliver high-end facial animation and motion-captured performances.
The new tech was discussed in a video diary, which in you see below, detailing more about the animation and art direction choices made for Advanced Warfare.
Sledgehammer Games' animation director Christopher Stone revealed the team is using an all-new performance capture system that can better capture experiences and muscle shapes in each of the character's faces, including star of Advanced Warfare, Hollywood's Kevin Spacey.
Stone described working with Spacey as the "highlight of [his] career" and praised the actor for his performance.
"Kevin spacey can bring a performance to the table without saying a word," he said. "When he stepped into that role, Irons wasn't just a character anymore, he was a person."
Stone also revealed the team is employing the unusual technique of using two animation skeletons for each soldier: one for the human body, and one for the mechanised exoskeleton and its various working parts.
