Game creators can now evaluate potential integration of APIs and conduct limited testing

Valve has made its Steamworks SDK available to all developers.

Revealing the move in a private developer forum, as spotted by Indiestatik, the SDK and accompanying documentation can now be accessed via the Steamworks developer site.

Any developers going through the Steam Greenlight process will now be able to evaluate potential integration of Steamworks APIs and features as well as conduct limited testing of functionality.

Game creators will still be required to have their projects greenlit through Steam Greenlight and gain an appID before they can integrate Steamworks however.

“We see this as a small, but important step as we work toward providing more broad access to the Steamworks set of features and Steam distribution platform,” read a statement from Valve.

“With this access, developers should be able to evaluate potential integration with the various features and APIs in Steamworks, compile the code and perform limited testing of the functionality with the included sample application.”

You can access the Steamworks developer site here.
