'2Digital Days' conference set for November

Vaizey keynote at Midlands games investment event

Culture minister Ed Vaizey is set to attend a new event designed to promote the West Midlands’ digital businesses.

The two-day November conference, called ‘2Digital Days’, hopes to draw in investment groups and promote local talent.

The Midlands, particularly Birmingham, is being flaunted as a thriving digital media industry. 2Digital Days’ event organizer claims the region “is home to nearly a quarter of the UK’s digital gaming workforce and over 5,800 digital companies”. Studios such as Codemasters, Rare and Blitz Games operate in the region.

IBM’s global location strategies division recently identified gaming as a growth sector in Birmingham.

Held alongside the 2Digital Days event will be a game industry-specific event called Launch, which Vaizey will keynote.

Sarah Darch, Investment Manager at Business Birmingham, said the event will be “a great opportunity for prospective investors to experience the buzz of Birmingham’s digital scene”.

“The city and wider area has unlimited potential for digital media companies looking to expand their operations, or locate in the UK,” she added.

Tiga CEO Richard Wilson said the event will “showcase why the UK is the best place in the world to do games business.”
