Winners to be announced during September event

Nominations have opened for the Unity Awards, an annual ceremony that celebrates the most impressive games based on Unity’s popular engine.

The deadline for nominating another studio is August 8 – go here to submit your vote – after which a judging panel will decided which of the most popular developers will take home an award.

"We continue to be blown away by what people create using Unity," said Unity exec Nicholas Francis.

"Now that our registered user base has surpassed 500,000 users with 150,000 of these using it monthly, we can't wait to see this year's nominations and how our users are continuing to raise the bar and set new standards."

Winners will be announced at the Award Ceremony being held at Unite 11, Unity Technologies' fifth annual developer conference taking place September 28 - 30, 2011 at the Masonic Center in San Francisco.

This year's award categories are:

* Student
* Community choice
* Non-game
* Best graphics
* Best gameplay
* Best cross platform

Unity said it will self-pick one particular studio to pick up the Grand Prix prize.
