The technology focused game developer is the only UK studio selected for the program
Sensible Object, a UK based game development studio has been selected to take part in the Amazon Alexa Accelerator, powered by Techstars.
The program has selected nine companies globally and Sensible Object is the only representatives from the UK in the program. This is following a successful funding round from UK angel investors for $1.4 million.
Sensible Object's most recent game, Beasts of Balance, is a game that combines videogame play with a physical Jenga-like tower toy that syncs to a tablet. It's the mix between using physical technology along with videogames that has given Sensible Object the edge in their submission for the program.
“This is a very exciting time for us," said Sensible Object CEO, Alex Fleetwood. "We’re in the middle of our second crowdfunding campaign, in which we reached our goal in under six hours and surpassed six figures in less than a day. And now, with the combination of the Alexa Accelerator, powered by Techstars and our latest funding round, we’re positioned extremely well for incredible growth in 2017, 2018 and beyond. We will be integrating Alexa to create novel twists on familiar play experiences, and our hybrid physical/digital model means we can rapidly turn that development effort into sales revenue. It’s the next step in our vision to build the play platform for the connected home.”
“From our first meeting, we’ve been extremely impressed with CEO Alex Fleetwood and the entire Sensible Object team. Their vision to merge physical and digital gaming by harnessing devices already adopted into the connected home is powerful and exciting,” said Techstars managing director, Aviel Ginzburg, on behalf of the Amazon Alexa Accelerator. “Their execution to date with their first game Beasts of Balance has proven that not only are they the right people to tackle this opportunity but that they’ve discovered an entirely new and highly engaging genre of social gaming where friends and family play face to face, rather than face to screen.”
Beasts of Balance is currently midway through a Kickstarter campaign that has raised over $175,000 with 20 days still to go. The program will run for 13 weeks and by the end, the newly developed game will demonstrate the potential of voice AI on a demo day in Seattle.
