New animated series will use assets from Gearbox's WW2 shooter

Unreal Engine 3 is being used to create a brand new CG animated series that is built from assets made for Gearbox's Brothers in Arms.

Called Sacred Road, the project has been detailed by Epic's Mark Rein in the latest issue of Develop's Epic Diaries slot, available to read here.

Developed by Blockade Entertainment and partnering with Gearbox, the animated series is written and directed by Oscar-nominated director Bill Kroyer. The series will be aried in the US on Gameplay HD and also distributed online, on mobile devices, and internationally.

The series tells the story of five American soldiers trying to stop occult German army men from raising World War One soldiers from the dead.

“Unreal Engine 3 allows us to be more efficient in various stages of our production, giving us more time and resources to be experimental on how we approach each episode,” explained studio founder Brad Foxhoven on the decision to licence Epic's middlware for the series. “We can stage and edit various aspects of the production, and not lose out on our timeline.”

Blockade also plans to make more CG series using the engine.
