Ubisoft has issued a patch plugging a security gap that left PC gamers vulnerable to hacking.
The exploit could be used to gain access to private files on a customer’s computer through the uPlay service, which acts as a launcher for all Ubisoft games.
"We have made a forced patch to correct the flaw in the browser plug-in for the uPlay PC application that was brought to our attention earlier today," read a statement from Ubisoft.
"We recommend that all uPlay users update their uPlay PC application without a Web browser open. This will allow the plug-in to update correctly. An updated version of the uPlay PC installer with the patch also is available from uPlay.com."
As the company’s official anti-piracy software, uPlay is required to play Ubisoft’s games on the PC.
It is unknown if any computers were compromised due to the exploit, but Ubisoft assured customers it "takes security issues very seriously, and we will continue to monitor all reports of vulnerabilities within our software and take swift action to resolve such issues."
