Newcastle and San Diego studios given deadlines to be bought out

The clock is ticking for two Midway studios which have found themselves abandoned from the publisher’s imminent acquisition at the hands of Warner Bros.

As the Californian media enterprise’s $33 million acquisition of Midway is set to be sealed within the next ten days, two of Midway’s subsidiary studios – based in Newcastle and San Diego – have both been given notice to find a buyer or effectively close.

If neither studio is acquired before the given deadline – believed to be 60 days – both Midway Newcastle (which is still working on new title Necessary Force) and Midway San Diego will need to change their studio names and be independently funded and order to continue business.

Kotaku reports that the Warner Bros acquisition includes Midway’s sports and arcade brands as well as key IP Mortal Kombat and the not yet released This Is Vegas. Midway’s Chicago and Seattle studios will also head over to camp Warner.
