Fabric for Games web portal also launched

Twitter ‘doubles down’ on game development with Unity support for Fabric

Fabric, Twitter’s collection of development tools, can now be fully integrated into Unity’s IDE.

Available as a single unified plugin, Fabric for Unity includes the Crashlytics error reporting tool and monetisation platform MoPub.

Twitter has also launched Fabric for Games, a web portal providing access to the social media giant’s tools for devs.

“Games are a different beast than traditional apps,” product manager Hemal Shah told Develop. “They often have a different lens for finding and evaluating new solutions.

“Our games portal makes it clear for game developers to know how Fabric can help them be successful. With our support for the largest gaming platform on the market, it felt like the right time to double down on that commitment.”

Responding to the suggestion that the dual launch suggested a greater move into the world of game development by Twitter, he added: “We’ve seen a tremendous interest from game developers – in fact, Unity support was one of our top, if not the top feature request from customers.

“Now that we’ve built the bridge to reach these customers, I expect we’ll continue to see more and more amazing ideas from the developer community on ways we can help them build, grow and monetise their games.”
