New SDK allows users to broadcast and capture footage from smartphone titles

Twitch has announced a new mobile software development kit that will enable users to stream footage from mobile games.

The new SDK has been aligned with the streaming giant's PC and console offerings, introducing many of the same features such as the ability to capture and broadcast gameplay video and audio, capture audio from both internal and external microphones and upload videos for sharing online.

Mobile users will also be able to capture video from their smart device's front-facing camera, and customise the broadcast quality,

"Our vision is to provide the Twitch community with the ability not only to view, but to broadcast live video game content wherever they are, whether they're on the go or in the living room," said Matthew DiPietro, Twitch's VP of marketing.

"We've achieved that with our PC and console integrations, so the trifecta will soon be complete with our deep and concerted foray into mobile broadcasting."

Twitch already has a mobile viewing app, which has been downloaded more than 10m times, split evenly across Android and iOS.
