The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain has announced the finalists for its 2014 awards, with three indie studios dominating the games category.
The awards recognise the best UK writers from TV, film, theatre, radio, books and more, with the winners announced during a ceremony on Monday, January 19th 2015.
First in the line-up for Best Writing in a Video Game is The Chinese Room’s Dan Pinchbeck for his work on Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. The title is an indirect sequel to survival horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent and was published as part of a partnership between The Chinese Room and Amnesia creator Frictional Games.
Next is Meg Jayanth, the writer behind Inkle Studios’ 80 Days, an iOS adventure based on Jules Vernes’ classic Around The World In 80 Days. The game was critically acclaimed, thanks in no small part to Jayanth’s writing.
Finally, Kevin Beimers is shortlisted for his work on Schrodinger’s Cat and the Raiders of the Lost Quark, a quirky title by indie studio Italic Pig that was published by Team17 earlier this year.
