CEO Wilson says the deal is â??not an exclusive arrangementâ?? with the Runescape developer

The CEO of Tiga says his association’s new publishing initiative is not exclusively tied to UK studio Jagex.

On the contrary; Richard Wilson told Develop that any Tiga member can act as publisher in its new ‘Project Ignite’ initiative.

“This is not an exclusive arrangement with Jagex – if another Tiga member wants to get involved on the publishing side of things, then of course we will help them do that,” he said.

Project Ignite, as the scheme is called, is Tiga’s first plunge into game publishing.

Small indie developers can submit their browser-based game prototypes to the association, and in turn Tiga will evaluate the project and – if successful – send it to Jagex to publish. Profits are split between Jagex and indie studios.

Tiga faced criticism for the new initiative, with some suggesting it damages the association’s independence.

Wilson rejected the argument, claiming that Project Ignite “gives people choice”.

“And Tiga makes no money from this, which I feel is still a good sign that we’re independent,” he said.

“I’d be very happy for other Tiga members to come forward with a proposition to become a publishing partner in the scheme.”
