TIGA and ITN join forces to produce a second current affairs programme on the games industry

Games trade body TIGA and current affairs production company ITN Productions have joined forces for the second time to launch another current affairs programme about the games industry.

The new show, called The Next Level will be looking at the UK games development industry and its impact on the UK’s economy and society. The industry currently employs around 34,000 people according to TIGA’s figures from its press release and is continuing to grow.

The programme will look at how the UK is one of the best countries in the world for the industry and development, using ITN’s bespoke new production to create an interesting and quality programme. The programme will also be narrated by ITN news anchor, Natasha Kaplinsky.

"TIGA’s top priority is to strengthen the UK video games development industry. TIGA’s content partnership with ITN Productions will enable us to showcase the economic, cultural and educational importance of the sector," said TIGA CEO, Dr Richard Wilson. "Our programme will assist in advancing our policy agenda to the government and enhancing our engagement with Ministers, MPs and officials. The Next Level will also highlight TIGA’s key policy proposals: retaining Video Games Tax Relief, introducing a Games Investment Fund, deepening our talent pool and maintaining the ability to recruit highly skilled overseas workers."

"We’re delighted to be partnering again with TIGA to create The Next Level," said ITN Productions head of industry news, Simon Shelly. "We look forward to exploring the role video games play on society and the significant contribution to UK GDP. This programme will be a means for the sector to share knowledge and best practice and galvanise others to build a career in the profession.”

The show will premiere at the TIGA Games Industry Awards on Thursday 2nd of November.
