First game from Criterion co-founders also uses Apex Destruction and Flex for physics-based mayhem

Three Fields harnesses Unreal, PhysX and Apex for debut title Dangerous Golf

UK games studio Three Fields Entertainment has finally unveiled its new title Dangerous Golf, an outlandish physics-based take on the sport.

This is the studio’s first ever title, having only been formed back in March 2014 by Criterion co-founders Alex Ward and Fiona Sperry.

Despite the rampant speculation, the duo stressed that their first game would not be a spiritual successor to Criterion’s famous Burnout series – but has since teased that its second could be a Burnout-style title for virtual reality.

In the meantime, the firm is working on Dangerous Golf: an “irreverent, silly, fun approach to golf games” coming to the Steam, Xbox and PlayStation stores this May. And there’s some triple-A tech ticking away behind the scenes.

“Dangerous Golf may be a fun, silly golf game, but it’s one that was created with a serious technical edge,” the studio’s site reveals.

“Our team worked closely with both Epic’s Unreal Engine 4 team and Nvidia to not only push the boundaries of their PhysX, Apex Destruction and Flex technologies, but also to deliver a truly physics-based game experience.

“As such, players will enjoy causing amazing destruction by smashing thousands of physically simulated rigid body valuables, shatter priceless heirlooms into small pieces and paint the environments with physically simulated liquids.

“By harnessing the power of world class technology provided by Epic and nVidia, we are pushing the boundaries of fast action, amazing destruction and multiplayer gaming. Dangerous Golf is just the beginning of a series of games that will focus on speed, danger, excitement and destruction.”
