David Atkinson joins as firm pushes through refinancing deal

The Foundry names new head of design

The Foundry has appointed David Atkinson as its new head of design for commercial products.

He joins the firm from Saddington Baynes where he worked on campaigns for Honda, Infiniti and Dyson. Prior to that he worked in product design at Autodesk and as a CAD sculptor at Apple.

Atkinson will now work with The Foundry team on developing its suite of software for artists and designers.

“As we push further into the design industry, David gives us invaluable real life insights as to how we can deliver solutions that make design more efficient, more accessible and more relevant to all kinds of business, without disrupting the creative process by which designers work,” said The Foundry CEO Bill Collis.

The news comes as The Foundry also announced a refinancing deal with the Silicon Valley Bank as it aims to continue growing its business.

The firm’s suite of software includes 3D modelling tool Modo (used in Borderlands 2, pictured) and paint software Mari. It also recently acquired Made with Mischief, which developed pen-based sketeching application Mischief that helps enable artists to create digital art in the same way they would with real-life art materials.
