Sonic Boom and Bayonetta 2 chart below FIFA 13 in the UK Wii U chart

Few documents make as interesting a read as the UK Wii U charts.

Let’s start with the unsurprising news – new release Super Smash Bros has this week debuted at No.1 (despite the fact the Wii U release was only able to propel the game to 13th in the UKIE GfK Chart-Track All Formats Top 40).

Following it are the system’s three best selling games in the UK – Mario Kart 8, New Super Mario Bros U and Nintendo Land.

However, the rest of the listing throws up some surprising findings.

Firstly, what is the amazing Super Mario 3D World doing sitting all the way down in ninth? That puts it below both of Ubisoft’s Just Dance titles and only one place ahead of the ultra-niche Hyrule Warriors.

Further down the list we have recent release Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric (complete with its 33 per cent – yes, thirty three – Metacritic average) and Bayonetta 2 in 15th and 16th – that’s below the two year old FIFA 13 in 14th.

And what is Skylanders Trap Team doing outside of the Top Ten? Activision’s toys-to-life game was once regarded as a natural fit for Nintendo’s systems but has so far struggled this year, tailing far behind Disney’s own genre entry Disney Infinity 2.0 in fifth.

Overall the Top 20 has ten Nintendo titles and two each from Disney, Ubisoft, Warner and EA.

Here’s the Wii U Top 20 in full for the week ending November 29th 2014:
