Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter campaign nets $1.8m

The Kickstarter campaign for a new Shadowrun title has ended with more than $1.8m generated in pledges.

Shadowrun Returns will be developed for PC and tablet, with Jordan Weisman at the helm. Weisman is one of the creators of the original pen-and-paper RPG Shadowrun.

The Kickstarter campaign started in early April and achieved its initial target of $400,000 in 24 hours.

The new game will pay homage to the turn-based Shadowrun titles released for the SNES and Sega Mega Drive, according to Gamasutra.

Of course, the brand is better known to gamers for the ambitious but critically panned Xbox 360 and PC title Shadowrun. The 2007 FPS was notable for its cross-platform play between the two formats.

The Shadowrun RPGs are set in a world where magic and technology are constantly at war.
