Rush of dev support for ‘4x more powerful’ PSP2

Epic Games founder Tim Sweeney has given the PSP2 a ringing endorsement by claiming the upcoming handheld is a significant technological leap into the next generation.

The device, announced earlier today at Tokyo event, is said will feature an ARM Cortex-A9 processor.

“Sony’s multi-core GPU is roughly 4x as powerful as any portable we’ve previously seen," Sweeney said.

“We’re very excited and think you will be stunned at what’s possible on Sony’s next generation portable platform," ghe added.

Sweeney’s comments were echoed by a rush of developers pledging support for the new device.

Capcom’s Jun Takeuchi showed Monster Hunter Portable 3rd running on the device, and confirmed the MT Framework will be built for the PSP2.

Sega also took to stage in Tokyo to reveal a new edition of Yakuza 4, built under the stewardship of popular designer Toshihiro Nagoshi.

The Yakuza demo apparently showed the game running using PlayStation 3 shaders.

Among the other developers dedicating efforts for the device, Konami creative director Hideo Kojima revealed a revised version of Metal Gear Solid 4 running on PSP2.
