Gore Verbinski set for keynote address at February event

Pirates of the Caribbean director talks game/movie crossover at DICE

The director of the Pirates of the Caribbean, Gore Verbinski, has been announced as the keynote speaker at February’s DICE Summit.

Verbinski will look at "how some of the foundations of successful filmmaking can be used to expand the ways that videogames entertain consumers".

He said in an announcement: "As the collision between film, gaming, Internet and animation occurs, we’re witnessing the birth of new forms of narrative. Sharing ideas and experiences at the point of impact is the only way to ensure that the new opportunities remain fluid. With initial success, the arteries harden. The business model forces the creative landscape into a narrowing perspective where we tend to create followers instead of innovators. I’m interested in developing a collaboration that will widen that field of view."

DICE runs from February 6th to 8th in Las Vegas – a number of games industry heavyweights are also set to talk at the event, including John Riccitiello (Electronic Arts), Shane Kim (Microsoft Game Studios), Masaya Matsuura (NanaOn-Sha), Mike Morhaime (Blizzard), Jim Ward (LucasArts) and Yannis Mallat (Ubisoft).
