Michel Ancel explains why Beyond Good & Evil 2 has taken so long

The creator of Beyond Good & Evil, Michel Ancel, has taken to Instagram of all places to explain why the sequel to the much loved classic has taken so long.

Earlier in the month Ubisoft confirmed that Beyond Good & Evil 2 is real, and is on track to actually come out and be playable in the future. The news came after years of rumours surrounding the sequel, and multiple reports of many canceled iterations.

With the sequel now official Ancel revealed why it took so long to get the new project off the ground, by posting a picture of characters that were designed in 2008 to Instagram.

2008 Characters. The game was playable with many prototypes,” said Ancel in the post. All videos where realtime but we had too much technical issues. We wanted planet exploration, space travel, cities… All this was also supposed to be in BGE 1… Instead of not doing the game of our dreams, we decided to return to 2d, have fun with Rayman and go back at work for Beyond good and Evil 2. We still have loooooots of work but now the tech is ready and the team is fantastic!”

If all of those features make it into Beyond Good & Evil 2 then we could be in for something special. Unfortunately it will probably be quite a while before we actually get our hands on it.
