Megan Gaiser is leaving her post as Her Interactive’s chief creative strategy officer to “form a new venture”, the company has revealed.
Gaiser has earned a reputation as one of the most influential women in the games industry, having helped Her Interactive grow one of the most popular mystery adventure franchises on the market: Nancy Drew.
The game series has won 28 consecutive Parent’s Choice Awards, and Gaiser herself has been lauded with Microsoft’s 2010 Women in Games award and the 2011 IndieCade Honorary Trailblazer Award for Lifetime Achievement.
"It has long been my passion to use my leadership and expertise to improve standards around the portrayal of women in media,” said Gaiser.
“Now is the time to pursue this on a much broader scale.”
Her new mission is to work with industry leaders and academics to make sure games and other media get more positive portrayals of female characters while consulting with social ‘games for good’ initiatives.
"We are very grateful to Megan for everything she has done at Her Interactive," said Her Interactive CEO Stuart Moulder.
"The Nancy Drew series of games is one of the longest running series ever created and are a credit to Megan’s creativity and vision. We wish Megan all the best as she takes on the next chapter in her own story."
Gaiser spent fifteen years at Her Interactive, having once served as CEO at the company, and says it’s a time in her career she’ll remember fondly.
"It has been an honor to work with such an incredibly talented and passionate team, as well as an extremely dedicated board, at Her Interactive,” she said.
“Through creative collaboration, we defined a market niche for female gamers in the Nancy Drew franchise. My 15 years have been the adventure of a lifetime. I will miss working in such a dynamic environment. I will forever remain a Her Interactive ambassador."
