Mars Dota 2 League returns for season five in 2017

The Mars Dota 2 League will return in 2017 for at least one more season, after becoming one of the biggest LANs in the east.

Season five of MDL will return in May 2017, with the LAN event taking place between the 10th and 14th. No other details were given in relation to teams, prize money or location other that it will again take place in China.

“We are proud to announce the dates of our upcoming MDL that will take place in China on May 10-14,” read an announcement from the event organisers on Facebook. “Eight of the best teams on the planet will compete for five days, and try to succeed to Evil Geniuses. The western teams have an edge over the Chinese teams after Team Secret and Evil Geniuses triumphed at our event while EHOME claimed the victory during our second season in Wuxi. Will a Chinese team manage to tie the series?”

Putting their flag in the ground in terms of dates so early seems like a good move, especially as many tournament organisers seem to be eying up the first months of 2017 for their events. May is also a safe bet as the Spring Major will be done and dusted a few weeks before and the TI7 qualifiers will still be a few weeks away. It certainly wouldn’t be surprising to see a few more LAN’s in May.
