iOS 10 is installed on over 50% of Apple devices

iOS 10 is installed on over 54% of Apple mobile devices according to official figures released this week.

Apple themselves announced the news with the handy pie chart you can see to the right of this very sentence.

The chart also reveals that only 8% of iPhones and iPads are running an OS older than iOS 9, with the remaining 38% sticking strong with last years update.

Apple’s official figures show that, while uptake is good it is not the best, as iOS 9 managed to hit the 50% install base mark after just four days.

Interestingly data from third parties estimated that the iOS 10 uptake was much higher. Mobile data tracking company Fiksu suggests that iOS 10 is actually installed on 67.7% of iPhones and iPads, which would make it the best launch of a new iOS ever. Although as Apple’s numbers are probably far more reliable I know which one I will be using as fact.

Regardless of the actual figure this is good news for Apple, who are doing a lot better than rivals Samsung right now. The latter just told all Note 7 users to power down and get a refund, while the Note 7 is also no longer supported by the Gear VR.
