Internet connectivity giant Level 3 has signed a deal with Rotterdam-based game server provider Interactive 3D.
The agreement will see Level 3 provide high-speed IP services to support Interactive 3D’s network scalability and connectivity needs. Additionally, the deal will mean Level 3 delivers wavelength transport services out of its Rotterdam point-of-presence, allowing Interactive 3D, which owns 2,500 high-end Dell game servers globally, to peer in multiple locations.
“On a daily basis, more than one million people play games on Interactive 3D hosted servers, and our ultimate goal is to help our customers deliver the best online experience possible for those gamers in terms of low latency, stability and reliability,” said Stijn Koster, CEO of Interactive 3D.
“With Level 3, we’re getting the scalability of a Tier 1 network at our fingertips and a team as committed to the customer experience as we are.”
Interactive 3D works with several high-profile gaming outfits including THQ, Ubisoft and EA, and hosts dedicated servers for numerous IPs including Call of Duty, Battlefield and Medal of Honor.
Level 3 has stated that its services will give Interactive 3D a flexible solution to meet increasing demand for internet connectivity from its games customers, while further enabling connectivity to European internet exchanges and providing extra peering options across multiple locations.

“We’re regularly identifying opportunities like this to provide more of the telecommunications services our customers want in the locations that will allow them to more effectively grow their businesses.”
Level 3’s service to Interactive 3D is the result of the former expanding its network presence in the Netherlands through the creation of a point-of-presence in the SmartDC datacenter in Rotterdam.
The deal will allow Interactive 3D to push up to – and even beyond – 10 Gigabits per second.
