Australian association gets Canadian expert to talk up benefit of subsidies at conference

GDAA continues tax break campaigning

Still lobbying for the Australian Government to acknowledge the economic power of the games industry, the Game Developers Association of Australia has recruited the talents of Warren Currell, of Canadian developer Sherpa Games, to speak on the eve of its Game Connect: Asia Pacific 2007 conference.

Currell’s talk, entitled ‘Government support and funding for interative entertainment in Canada’, will focus on how the financial support provided by the Canadian government promotes the creation of original IP, ‘cultural products’ and job opportunities.

“With 300+ companies involved in the video game industry in Canada some 56% are now developing proprietary technology due to the funding initiatives of the Canadian government,” said Greg Bondar, CEO of the GDAA

“We are delighted to have Warren Currell speak on this topic at the Investment Summit session at Thursday’s pre-Conference sessions. This presentation will highlight the benefits and economic value to the economy that a tax rebate can provide. I am urging all government bureaucrats to be at this session and take note.”
