Developers able to publish titles to Windows Store before new OS launches on October 26th

GameSalad Creator adds Windows 8 support

Development platform GameSalad Creator is now supporting Windows 8, it has revealed.

The games engine, which allows for multiplatform games design without the need for code, will also support various features on Microsoft’s new OS including Snap Pause, time-based trials and tiles support, allowing users to add an app’s icon directly to their desktop.

The tools outfit said that opening up to the Windows Store enabled developers the chance to reach more than 600 million devices in 200 markets around the world.

Developers will be able to publish their games to the Windows Store before Windows 8 officially launches on October 26th.

"By supporting Windows 8, GameSalad developers now have the opportunity to reach all new Windows 8 users, regardless of form factor," said GamesSalad CEO Steve Felter.

"We are excited to help our developer community take full advantage of the tremendous opportunities the Windows 8 ecosystem presents."

Windows Apps marketing senior director John Richards added: "Microsoft is thrilled GameSalad will be bringing its popular GameSalad Creator product to Windows 8 and welcomes its passionate community of more than 400,000 developers.

"By making it easy to create and publish games to the Windows Store, GameSalad developers now have access to a powerful distribution channel with unprecedented global reach across more than 200 markets."

GameSalad was founded in 2009, with more than 100,000 games created using the engine to date.

As well as now supporting Windows 8, the GameSalad Creator is also compatible with Android, iOS and Mac.
