StrawDog's XBLA game to hit the net with Turbulenz

Game engine â??brings console quality to browserâ??

Guildford based engine vendor Turbulenz has partnered with UK developer StrawDog Studios to bring an XBLA title to web browsers.

The Turbulenz Engine is both a development platform and online distribution system. Its creators say the tech “can bring games of a similar visual fidelity and gameplay as a high-end console, to over 500 million consumers with access to a browser.”

StrawDog Studios’ XBLA title Space Ark is the latest to be rebuilt for online browsers using Turbulenz.

An “evolved” version of Space Ark is set for release April 2011.

Paul Smith, CEO at StrawDog Studios, said Turbulenz “gives independent developers exactly what we need.”

“Publishing a high-end game in the browser, reaching consumers directly ourselves, and getting content we have already invested years of engineering time on, onto Facebook and other popular sites is really exciting for us,” he added.

The Turbulenz SDK comes with no license fee, and developers receive 70 per cent of a game’s revenue.

“We are delighted to announce this tie-up with StrawDog Studios and look forward to working closely with them as we launch our platform in 2011,” said Turbulenz CEO James Austin.
