No further character resets as CCP's ambitious cross-platform project comes to fruition

Dust 514 entering open beta

Free-to-play MMO shooter Dust 514 will enter open beta on January 22nd, CCP has announced.

Having recently merged the Dust 514 and Eve Online servers, users will soon be able to download and play the FPS on PS3.

The ambitious project is designed to bring the players of both games together in one universe, with the events of each title directly impacting the other.

Players of Dust 514 can belong to existing corporations in Eve Online, while Dust players can also recruit pilots from Eve to join them in battle.

CCP also confirmed there would be no further resets of characters, with players from the closed beta of the FPS now able to progress as if they were playing the full version of the persistent MMO.

“The launch of the Dust 514 Open Beta is another step towards our long-term vision for CCP and Eve,” said CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson.

“But this is just the beginning. As we have done with Eve Online, in the coming weeks, and for years to come, we will continually improve upon and add to the Dust 514 experience, as well as add deeper integration between the two games and their communities.”

CCP’s Nullabor recently said in a blog post that the merging of Dust 514 into its flagship title Eve Online was a “massive technical and game design endeavour”, and that the developer was taking as much care as possible to ensure its new FPS did not upset the balance of its ten-year old space sim.
