Animation tool promises to reduce production times of 3D heads

Di-O-Matic launches Facial Studio v2

Di-O-Matic has confirmed the immediate availability of Facial Studio v2 for Windows systems.

Based on the same technology as the company’s award-winning 3ds max plug-in, the new suite of facial animation tools promises to both reduce development times and simplify the process of building faces from photographic sources.

Equipped with its own texture map libraries, Facial Studio v2 provides over 500 controls that cater for the creation of a three dimensional head in its entirety, enabling techniques such as muscle-based deformation modeling.

“The immense and comprehensive set of facial controls in Facial Studio allowed us to go from initial head setup to fully functioning, morph-target rigged, texture mapped heads in hours rather than days," said Clockwork Digital’s director Simon Winstanley. "Without Facial Studio we would definitely have gone over-time and over-budget, and we now rely on it as in indispensable production tool.

“I’ve worked with 3D face animation for over 20 years, created the first fully 3D music video using synthetic faces for Kraftwerk and taught the first course solely on facial animation at Stanford University,” added academic and 3D artist Steve DiPaola. “I’m still around facial animation everyday but when I go home to do my work I always turn to Facial Studio – it’s fast, flexible and gives me professional results.”

Facial Studio v2 is available at a suggested retail price of $699. To access the updated version registered users of the Windows edition must be subscribers to Di-O-Matic’s Premium+ support package, which is currently available for $99.
