DayZ alpha racks up 400,000 week one sales

The makers of the hugely successful standalone version of DayZ on Steam have revealed some impressive sales numbers for the game.

The alpha version of DayZ, which by the developer’s own admission is still at an early stage and is riddled with bugs, sold 400,000 downloads in its first week. At its peak there were 40,000 concurrent players.

Three patches were also released for the game in its first seven days, although players are warned to expect a slowing of the patch rate this second week as team members take a break.

Chief designer Dean Hall has also confirmed a number of upcoming improvements including the addition of extra zombies, multithreading the servers, tweaks and improvements to player and item spawning, additional server management options, new animal behaviour and hunting options, anti-hack protections and implementation of cooking and resource gathering features.
