Colin McRae: DiRT 2 confirmed for 2009

Codemasters has confirmed Colin McRae: DiRT 2 for release next year on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS and PSP.

The sequel follows the tragic death of the rally legend in 2007, and the decision to continue to use Colin McRae’s name in the series was taken jointly by both the McRae family and Codemasters.

The publisher said that the game will honour the life of the driver.

Colin McRae was all about the speed, the excitement and the entertainment of rally driving,” said Codemasters Studios Gavin Raeburn.

Even when we first worked with him over ten years ago, he captured a freedom and a spirit that enthralled rally fans. Later his showmanship shone through in events such as the X-games, the Dakar Rally and the Race of Champions. He could do things with a car that no one else would and that’s where we’re taking the series with new events at the extreme edge of rally and autosport. It will be a great tribute to an incredible champion.”

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 will be powered by the third generation of the EGO Engine’s award-winning racing game technology. The title will feature contemporary off-road events and real-world environments from around the world, including multi-car and solo races in locations ranging from canyons and jungle trails, to stadium-based events.
